Election for Board of Trustees staff representative to be held in May

The University of Kentucky Staff Senate Election Committee will soon conduct the selection of the staff representative on the University of Kentucky Board of Trustees for the term beginning July 1, 2004.

Electronic voting for candidates in a one-round, Web-based election will be conducted May 3-14. UK staff will also have an opportunity to vote electronically at Staff Appreciation Day on May 14. Votes will be certified on May 17, the winner will be notified, and the results posted on the Web www.uky.edu/Staff/Senate.

By March 22 a list of candidates will be available online at the UK Staff Senate Web site and will be published in UK News. The Staff Senate Web site will contain additional important information about the election.

UK staff members who may be interested in running for the staff representative position on the board should attend an orientation session from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Feb 10 in the William T. Young Library auditorium.

"We are extremely pleased to be a part of this important election process," said Kathy Sheppard-Jones, adult services coordinator in the Interdisciplinary Human Development Institute and chair of the Staff Senate Election Committee. "This is a tremendous opportunity for staff at the university to learn more about the Board of Trustees and to become more involved. The Staff Senate hopes everyone will participate in the candidate forums and, most importantly, vote."

The orientation session is being sponsored by the Staff Senate.

Potential candidates will be able to self-nominate following the orientation session. Nominations will be accepted through noon March 12. Self-nomination forms will be available in an insert to be published in UK News and on the Staff Senate Web site. In order to self-nominate, candidates will be required to obtain 25 signatures from full-time, regular UK staff.

The UK Women's Forum will sponsor campus forums for the candidates to give staff members an opportunity to learn more about the candidates. Dates, times and locations for the forums will be announced later.

For additional information on the election process, contact Sheppard-Jones at kjone@uky.edu or call her 257-8104.
