president announces initiatives to improve women’s
safety
University of Kentucky President
Lee T. Todd Jr. announced eight new safety initiatives the
university will implement this academic year to improve the
safety of women on campus. The programs were developed in response
to findings from a victimization survey conducted at UK with
1,010 female graduate and undergraduate students. (more)
UK to evaluate Appalachian students’ science learning skills
A National Science Foundation (NSF) grant of nearly $2 million will enable the University of Kentucky to evaluate the science skills of more than 10,000 seventh and eighth grade Appalachian students during the next five years. (more)
Verizon gives gift to Markey to honor UK resident
When Dr. Brooke Brennan, a third year resident of the University of Kentucky Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, was diagnosed with cancer in March 2004, she knew she would be in the best hands at the UK Markey Cancer Center. Once her husband’s co-workers heard about this, they were inspired to do something to support her fight against cancer. They chose to focus their fund-raising efforts to benefit the Markey Cancer Center. (more)
