UK awarded prestigious Sloan Foundation Grant
Joining other top-echelon universities,
the University of Kentucky has been awarded a grant to fund
a Sloan Industry Center focusing on research into challenges
confronting the aluminum industry.
The UK Sloan Center for a Sustainable Aluminum Industry, to be housed in the
UK Gatton College of Business and Economics, will enhance the university’s
long-standing ties to the industry which already include the UK College of Engineering’s
Center for Aluminum Technology, and Secat, Inc., a university-industry partnership
devoted to advances in aluminum technology. Providing work for almost 18,000
Kentuckians, the industry is the state’s fifth largest employer. (more)
UK awards athletic multimedia
rights for $80.5 million
The University of Kentucky has
awarded Host Communications Inc. and Gray Television Inc. the
university's expanded athletic
multimedia marketing rights. Host, UK's radio and television
rights’ holder for most of the past three decades, will
team up with Lexington's top-rated television station, WKYT-TV,
to pay the university $80.5 million over the 10 years of the
agreement, making it one of the most lucrative deals of its kind
in NCAA history.(more)
NSF renews UK Appalachian
Math-Science Partnership Grant
The National Science Foundation
(NSF) has renewed for the fourth year a grant the University
of Kentucky used to
establish its Appalachian Mathematics and Science Partnership
(AMSP) of nine colleges and universities and 51 school districts.
The grant is aimed at improving math and science education in
pre-kindergarten through 12th grade in Appalachian school districts
in Kentucky, Tennessee and Virginia. (more)
