The Institut Français de Washington has awarded SUZANNE PUCCI, professor of French in the College of Arts and Sciences, the Edouard Morot-Sir Pedagogical Prize for her article "Tartuffe in Text and Performance 2000: A Blueprint for Collaboration," appearing in the March 2005 French Review. This prize is awarded annually for the best article on the teaching of French language, literature or culture. The amount of the award is $1,000.

SUZANNE SPRINGATE , patient care manager of the UK Markey Cancer Center, has been named the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Bluegrass Woman of the Year 2005. She was awarded woman of the year for her fund-raising efforts and dedication toward finding a cure for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease, and myeloma in Kentucky.

KAREN GRAHAM , Environmental Services, was chosen as UK Chandler Medical Center May Employee of the Month, and JEREMY WARNER, M.D., Pediatrics, was chosen as the May Resident of the Month. Core Values winners are Sense of Urgency, REGINA HEISER, RN; Teamwork, KAREN GARNER, RT; Accountability, HEINRICH WERNER, M.D.; Innovation, DAVID SHEARER; and Respect, ROBERT GOLDY, RN.

BOB OLSON , professor of Middle East Politics and History in the College of Arts and Sciences, “ Turkey's Relations with Iran, Syria, Israel, and Russia, 1991-2000” with an update of two additional chapters, covering developments to 2002 has been translated into French, “ Les Relations de al Turquie avec I'Iran, La Syrie, Israel et la Russie, 1991-2002: Les questions  Kurde et Islamiste” and published online by the Global Research International Affairs (GLORIA) Herliza, Israel (2005). This is the fourth book of Olson's to be translated and published into a foreign language. He has books translated into Arabic, Persian, Turkish, Kurdish and French.

The UK COLLEGE OF HEALTH SCIENCES DIVISION OF CLINICAL LABORATORY SCIENCES recently completed a site visit from the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences. The site visitors found no weaknesses and no areas of concerns. They did, however, comment on 12 areas of strengths in the program.

The 11 th Annual Associates Day Conference sponsored by the KY Chapter of the American College of Physicians was held on September 22 - 23, 2005.  The following UK physicians made scholarly presentations: SUZANNE GHARIB, NICOLE MASIMASI, YASER MOUNLA and SHYAMA SINHASHREE, residents in Internal Medicine, and MIKE MCCOY and DOUG TZANETOS, residents in Med-Peds.

CAROL BASKIN , professor of biology and plant and soil science, and JERRY BASKIN, professor of biology, both in the College of Arts and Sciences, presented an all-day short course April 5, 2005.

GLORIA ALLAIRE , lecturer in Italian in the department of Modern and Classical Languages, College of Arts and Sciences, was invited to do two presentations on her research at Indiana University-Bloomington, Feb. 24 and 25. The first "Rediscovering an Italian Cultural Artifact: The TristanoCorsiniano and what it tells us" was for a graduate seminar on medieval manuscript research; the second, titled "The Importance of Primary Source Research: Methodologies and Procedures for Editing a Text," was for a general university audience. She also recently read the paper "The Tristano Corsiniano Manuscript: a Case Study in Translation(s)" at the Kentucky Philological Association Conference, held on the NKU campus, Highland Heights, Ky., Mar. 4, 2005.
