- The American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy has selected Heidi M. Anderson, assistant dean, Office of Education Innovation in the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy, to participate in the charter class of the Academic Leadership Fellows program. The year-long faculty development program in health professions education is designed to develop the nation’s most promising pharmacy faculty in becoming future leaders in pharmaceutical and higher education.
-Thomas S. Foster, professor, University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy, and professor, UK College of Medicine, has been selected by the United States Pharmacopeia (USP) to chair the nominations committee for the election of scientists and clinician volunteers to serve on the Council of Experts for the 2005-2010 five-year organization cycle.
-Philip Greasley, dean of university extension and associate professor of English in the College of Arts and Sciences, has been elected president-elect of the Association for Continuing Higher Education. He assumes that post at the association’s international annual meeting in November at Newport, R.I.
-Lynn English , assistant professor, Division of Physical Therapy, recently became one of 120 American Physical Therapy Association Credentialed Clinical Trainers, by successfully completing the Train-the-Trainer Course in Alexandria, Va. This will enable English to conduct the APTA Clinical Instructor Credentialing Course for physical therapists and other health professionals who are interested in becoming proficient clinical instructors.
- Miles Osland, director of jazz studies and professor of saxophone, recently returned from a two week stay at the Conservatorio de Tatui in Sao Paulo, Brazil, as an artist in residence. Highlights of the residency included standing room only master classes, clinics and sold out concerts. While in Sao Paulo, Osland taught saxophone technique, improvisation and jazz technique master classes. Osland also traveled to Jau for an outreach clinic and performance with the Experimental Jazz Orchestra at the Sound Station music school.

-The June 2004 Resident of the Month is Tracy Wilkerson in Pediatric Dentistry.
-The July 2004 Resident of the Month is Nathan Bates in General Surgery.

D. Sudharshan, dean of the University of Kentucky Gatton College of Business and Economics, is the recipient of the Emerald Literati Award for outstanding paper. Sudharshan’s article, “A hierarchical framework of new products development: an example from biotechnology,” was published in the European Journal of Innovation Management. The Emerald Literati Awards recognize author and editor excellence and are awarded annually by leading international publishers in the library and information science, engineering, property and health care management sectors.
