Dennis E. Doherty , professor and chief, Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, UK College of Medicine, and medical director of Respiratory Care Services, UK Hospital, has taken three leadership positions in his field. He was elected by his peers to a three-year term on the National Association for Medical Direction of Respiratory Care board of directors. Also, he was appointed chairman of the National Lung Health Education Program. In addition, Doherty was named to a three year term on the National Respiratory Training Center board of directors.

At the recently concluded 26th World Congress of the International Federation of Biomedical Laboratory Science held in Stockholm, Sweden,  Vince Gallicchio gave an oral presentation on "Supporting International Certification for Biomedical/Clinical Laboratory Scientists." Also, as a delegate representing the United States on behalf of the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Sciences, his nomination was approved to serve as an expert in the fields of hematology and CLS education.

College of Pharmacy faculty members, Frank Romanelli, assistant professor, and Kelly Smith, associate professor, were selected as winners of the 2004 American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy Council of Faculties Innovations in Teaching Competition. They will present "Development and Implementation of a Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Certificate Program for Pharmacy Residents" at the 2004 AACP annual meeting. Romanelli, who also holds a joint appointment as assistant professor of physician assistant studies, UK College of Health Sciences, maintains an active practice within the UK Infectious Disease Clinic. Smith is director of the UK Drug Information Center and director of the UK Pharmacy Practice Residency Program. Founded in 1900, the AACP is the national organization representing the interests of pharmaceutical education and educators.

Angie McKitric, nursing services payroll, has been selected as UK Hospital 2004 employee of the year.
