NATASHA KYPRIANOU, professor of Urology, Pathology and Molecular Biochemistry, University of Kentucky College of Medicine, and president of the Society for Urologic Research, visited Capitol Hill on July 15, 2004, with other members of the Coalition for Urologic Research and Education and the American Urological Association to seek support for the Training and Research in Urology Act. During her trip, Kyprianou met with U.S. Sen. Jim Bunning ( Kentucky).

SUNNY HAM, assistant professor of Nutrition and Food Science, received the Best Research Paper Award at the 2004 Hospitality Information Technology Association conference held in Dallas, Texas, for the article, "The Impact of Information Technology on Service Quality in the Hotel Industry.”

SETH NOAR, assistant professor of Communications, is the recipient of an award from the National Institute of Health’s Loan Repayment Program. Noar applied based on funded and unfunded research he is conducting and plans to conduct over the next two years.

RONDA BECK, University of Kentucky Hospital associate director of finance, recently passed the Healthcare Financial Management Association examination to become a Certified Healthcare Financial Professional with a specialty in accounting and finance. Beck currently is appointed as a project team member on the financial and materials management teams of the UK Integrated Resource Information Systems project.

presentations RUPERT T. PICKENS and GLORIA ALLAIRE, of Modern and Classical Languages, Literature and Cultures, presented papers at the 11th International Courtly Literature Society meeting held recently in Madison, Wisc. Pickens, acting chair of the French division, discussed a complex manuscript that contains works of Marie de France in his paper "Reading Harley 978." Allaire, Italian program coordinator, read a paper titled "The Anti-Romances of Andrea da Barberino."

awards A double retirement reception for JIM BRAMEL and FRANK GODBEY will be held at the King Alumni House, 400 Rose St., from 2 to 4 pm. Sept. 22. Hosted by Information Technology, Enterprise Database and Application Department (Computing Center), the event marks Bramel’s retirement with over 42 years of programming support and technical service, and Godbey’s retirement with over 31 years of programming support. Friends and co-workers are welcome to attend.
