STOMBAUGH, assistant extension professor in the UK Biosystems
and Agricultural Engineering Department, College of Agriculture,
has earned a Blue Ribbon Award from the American Society of Agricultural
Engineers. Stombaugh was honored for his entry in the ASAE’s
Educational Aids Competition for his publication titled “Elements
of Precision Agriculture: Lightbar Guidance
Aids.”
MICHAEL E. ROGERS, 2003 doctoral student
in the Entomology Department, College of Arts and Sciences,
recently received the John Henry
Cornstock Award, the Entomological Society of America’s
most prestigious national student award. Doctoral students from
the UK Entomology Department have won the award in three of the
past four years.
The
University of Kentucky College of Health Sciences is holding
a convocation address given by Dean TOM ROBINSON at 3:30 p.m.
Monday, Nov. 1, in 127 Charles T. Wethington Jr. Building. This
year's topic is "Kentucky: Leadership in Health Sciences
Education.”
JAMES CAMPBELL, professor of music and director of percussion,
College of Fine Arts, presented a workshop at the Sweden Days
of Percussion in Stockholm, Sweden, Oct. 2-3. Campbell was also
a featured performer during an evening concert held at the Swedish
Artists and Musicians’ Interest Organization that featured
percussion performers from Europe, Brazil and the United States.
MELANIE OTIS, assistant professor in the College of Social Work,
presented “The State of Unions: Same-Sex Marriage and the
Fuzzy Line Between Church and State” at the University
of South Carolina Social Policy Conference held in Charleston,
SC. She also presented “The Right to Marry: Lesbian and
Gay Activists Framing of the Newest Battle for LGBT Rights” at
the Society for the Study of Social Problems
annual meeting in San Francisco, Calif.
JENNIFER SWANBERG, assistant professor in
the College of Social Work, presented “Rocking to Heaven: Using Visual Images
to Influence Public Policy” at the International Visual
Sociology Association meeting in San Francisco, Calif.
KAY
HOFFMAN, dean of the College of Social Work, was keynote speaker
at the Korea Association of Social Workers and the Korea National
Council of Social Welfare International Forum in Seoul, South
Korea. Here presentation was titled, “Evidence Based Practice:
Its Promise and Its Challenges.” Hoffman also attended
the board meeting for the International Association of Schools
of Social Work and was one of four representatives from the United
States to the World Congress on Social both in Adelaide, Australia.
