Giving to the Patterson School

Students around Patterson Statue

The richness of our program in diplomacy and international commerce has been made possible and enhanced by the exceptional generosity of friends and alumni. We have also benefited directly, to quote Blanche duBois, from "the kindness of strangers." The funds they provide support endowed professorships, scholarships, speaking programs, and other key endeavors.

While their generosity has been considerable, so too is the need for additional financial support, in particular for program development and scholarships. The Patterson School is currently working to enhance the international commerce component of our program and hopes to develop an ambitious program of corporate outreach to better expose students to the realities of advancing trade and international business. Substantial efforts are also being made to increase the number and variety of speakers we bring to Lexington to keep our students - as well as other parts of the University of Kentucky and the general public - fully abreast of developments in Washington and around the world. On the scholarship front, we are continually confronted with worthy appilcants we are unable to fund and exceptional student projects we wish we could support. In 2007, we established an Admiral William J. Crowe, Jr. Fellowship to support a student who—following in Admiral Crowe's footsteps—has served in the armed forces and now hopes to pursue a diplomatic career. Additional funds to endow this fellowship are needed. An effort is also now under way (spearheaded by former Kentucky Peace Corps volunteers) to generate gifts that would establish a fellowship to commemorate the Peace Corps upcoming 50th anniversary.

If you wish to learn more about how you can help or what is needed to make possible specific projects, please contact Carey Cavanaugh directly at 859-257-4666. Our Development Officer Doug Thomas at 859-257-7894 will gladly assist you regarding donations of securities or property, as well as the possibility of including the Patterson School in your estate plans.

All gifts, large and small, are deeply appreciated. Gifts can be made online by credit card through the University of Kentucky online giving page (please designate the Patterson School in the pull-down menu). Checks should be made payable to the "Patterson School of Diplomacy" and sent to:

Many employers will match charitable contributions that you make to educational institutions. Please determine whether you or your spouse qualify, as that matching gift can often double or triple your ability to help the Patterson School.

This is an exciting time at the Patterson School. Indeed, it is hard to imagine when there was a more pressing need for diplomacy and greater international understanding. We are training the next generation of diplomats, NGO leaders and corporate mangers. Your philanthropy can make the crucial difference between providing an excellent educational experience and an incredible one. Thank you in advance for your generosity!
