There is no easy system for categorizing international career opportunities and no central clearinghouse for such positions. How could there be?
In today's globalized world, virtually every corporation is engaged in some fashion in international trade and commerce. Consulting agencies, think tanks, and research centers seem to sprout like mushrooms, as do international non-profit organizations. While government employment opportunities are more standardized, here too recruitment and hiring procedures can change significantly – witness the recently revamped Foreign Service exam and new Presidential Management Fellows process. The specific skill sets employers desire most also change frequently. In the United States today, job seekers with Arabic, Chinese, or Farsi language ability and a security clearance are in particularly high demand. All of this places a premium on maintaining a general sense of trends and possible positions.
Patterson School students should explore the career links and job search sites in this section to obtain a greater appreciation of the wide range of potential employment and employers. It is, of course, only a partial list of the opportunities that may be available.
