MEDICAL CENTER LIBRARY INFORMATION - ONLINE

The Chandler Medical Center Library home page contains many valuable information resources.  Part of these resources is access to the University of  Kentucky Proxy Server, a service that allows off-campus users access to IP-restricted products.

What is Available?

All UK Community-Based Faculty may use the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center Proxy Server to access major UK resources from off campus locations.

Major health-related resources include:

  • Major health databases: MEDLINE, HealthSTAR, CINAHL, CANCERLIT, PsycINFO, AGELINE, Biological Abstracts and TOXLINE. (All can be accessed via SilverPlatter.)

  • Electronic journals: The Medical Center Library has an extensive list of full-text journals. An alphabetical list of full-text journal titles can be accessed from the E-Journals link located on the Quick Links section of the Medical Center Library home page.

  • MD Consult is a full-text product that provides access to medical reference books, medical journals, drug information, clinical practice guidelines, patient education information and continuing-education credit.

  • Web of Science contains an electronic back file for the past 10 years of Science Citation Index Expanded, Social Sciences Citation Index and Arts & Humanities Citation Index.

  • LEXIS-NEXIS Academic Universe provides nearly 5,000 publications (most full-text, the rest abstracted) covering news, financial, medical and legal information.

  • Scientific American Medicine Online (SAM Online) is a text of internal medicine that is thoroughly referenced to the primary literature.

  • Evidence-based medicine resources: The Cochrane Library contains systematic reviews on the effects of health care and a large controlled-trials register.

  • Consumer Health Resources, Health Reference Center provides access to a wide variety of personal health information sources, including the full text of many reference books, health information pamphlets and selected full text from many professional journals, including Journal of the American Medical Association, Hospitals and Health Networks, Contemporary Drug Problems, American Journal of Law and Medicine and Nursing.

  • Well-Connected is a comprehensive and current database of patient education materials written for the health care consumer. Each article is written and updated by experienced medical writers and reviewed and edited by the in-house editors and a board of physicians at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital.

  • InfoKat: This UK Web-based catalog contains books, journals and audiovisual materials from the UK Library system. It also has links to other college catalogs.
