General Information

Diphenhydramine is an antihistamine. It is a reversible H1 receptor antagonist, which reduces or prevents most of the physiologic effects that histamine normally induces at these receptor sites. The main effect seen with use of this product is reduced capillary permeability to histamine, therefore decreasing the wheal, flare, and itch response. Patients with a history of glaucoma, peptic ulcer, urinary retention, or if they are currently pregnant should contact their physician before using this product.
