Dosage Forms
Cream: concentrations from 1 to 25 %

Ointment: concentrations from 25 to 40 % in a wide variety of sizes ranging from 1 ounce to 16 ounces

 
Dosing Guidelines

  • For treatment of diaper dermatitis, at the first sign of redness, chafing, or even minor skin irritation, apply zinc oxide ointment three or more times a day as needed.
  • This product can also be used to prevent diaper rash by being applied liberally at each diaper change after the skin has been cleansed and dried. Apply especially at bedtime for prevention of diaper rash.
  • For use as a protectant in adults with minor cuts, burns, and scrapes. May apply a thin layer and cover with a gauze dressing as often as necessary.

 
Triage Questions About Treatment or Related Issues

Is baby allergic to anything? Does the baby have any kind or splotchy patches that are separate from the rest of the rash? Has this condition lasted longer than 7 days? Are there lesions that are open and weeping?

 
General Information

Zinc Oxide acts as a protectant or a drying agent. Serves to seal out wetness and germs.

Warnings: For external use only. Do not apply to deep or puncture wounds. Wash hands before and after use. Avoid contact with eyes. If condition persists for more than 7 days, discontinue use and contact a physician. While using this product, the condition may appear to worsen initially, but you should see some improvement within 2-3 days.
