Tablet: Antihistamine: Chlorpheniramine maleate (4 mg), antitussive: Dextromethorphan hydrobromide

Adult Dosing Guidelines

  • For management of symptoms associated with the common cold, hay fever, or other upper respiratory allergies, nasal congestion, runny nose, sneezing, itching of the nose of throat, and itchy watery eyes. Temporarily relieves and cough.
    Oral: Adults and children 12 years of age and over: Swallow one tablet whole every 6 hours, not to exceed 5 tablets in 24 hours or as directed by a doctor.

Pediatric Dosing Guidelines

This product is not for children under 12 years of age.

Triage Questions About Treatment or Related Issues

1. Is the patient pregnant or lactating?

2. What symptoms are present?

3. Does the patient have difficulty in swallowing?

4. Does the patient have hypertension, diabetes, COPD, or Asthma?

5. What medications is the patient currently taking?

6. Does the patient consume alcohol? If so about how many drinks per week?

7. Does the patient operate heavy machinery or have important tasks where alertness is required?

8. Does the patient have any pertinent allergies?

General Information

Chlorpheniramine maleate MOA: Competes with histamine for binding to histamine-1 receptors.

Dextromethorphan hydrobromide MOA: antitussive or cough suppressant that inhibits or suppresses the act of coughing & are indicated for the suppression of a dry, hacking, nonproductive cough; dose of 30 mg may prolong the duration of action.

May cause drowsiness; alcohol, sedatives, and tranquilizers may increase the drowsiness effect. Avoid alcoholic beverages while taking this product. May cause excitability especially in children. Use caution when driving a motor vehicle or operating machinery. If nervousness, dizziness, or sleeplessness occurs discontinue use and consult a doctor.


Adverse Reactions/Side Effects
Contraindications: children less than 12 years of age and in patients taking MAO inhibitors.

Do not take this product if on MAOI or two weeks after stopping MAOI drugs or drugs for Parkinson's disease.

A persistent cough may be a sign of a serious condition. If cough persists for more than one week, tends to recur, or is accompanied by fever, rash or persistent headache, consult a doctor. Do not take this product for persistent cough such as occurs with smoking, asthma, emphysema. Or if cough is accompanied by excessive phlegm unless directed by a doctor. Do not take this product unless directed by a doctor if you have glaucoma, or difficulty in urination due to enlargement of the prostrate gland
