Triage Questions About Treatment or Related Issues

Robitussin-DM is used to treat irritating, nonproductive coughing associated with the common cold, influenza, and infections of the lungs, throat, or sinuses. Drink extra fluids during use to help relieve chest congestion. To ensure proper dosing, measure the liquid with a special dosing cup or spoon, not with a regular teaspoon. If cough worsens, lasts more than a week, or is accompanied by fever, rash or persistent headache, consult your physician. Do not use for continual cough due to smoking, asthma, or emphysema, or when cough has excessive mucus. Do not use if you are sensitive to guaifenesin or dextromethorphan. Avoid using Robitussin-DM if you have used any monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOI’s) such as Marplan® (isocarboxazid), Nardil® (phenelezine), or Parnate® (tranylcypromine) in the past 14 days, due to the possibility of a serious drug interaction. Use only as directed by physician in children under 2 years of age. If pregnant, consult your physician or pharmacist before use.
