General Information Instruct the patient not to break the tablets or crush them, but to take the tablets as a whole. This permits the specially designed release system to remain intact. The clemastine is formulated in the outer shell of the tablet and is released immediately. The phenylpropanolamine component is incorporated into a sustained-released matrix, which releases the drug over a period of 12 hour; the slow release achieves blood levels equivalent to those achieved by giving 25 mg phenylpropanolamine q 4 hr for three doses. Report if symptoms do not improve or worsen after 5 days of therapy. Review conditions (hypertension, diabetes, asthma, CAD) in which the drug should be avoided. May cause drowsiness; alcohol, sedatives, and tranquilizers may increase the drowsiness effect. Avoid alcoholic beverages while taking this product. May cause excitability especially in children. Use caution when driving a motor vehicle or operating machinery. If nervousness, dizziness, or sleeplessness occurs discontinue use and consult a doctor. |
