Tablets, Caplets, Gelcaps: naproxen 200mg, sodium 20mg
Adult Dosing Guidelines
- One tablet (caplet or gelcap) every 8-12 hours while symptoms persist. For the first dose you may take 2 tablets (caplets or gelcaps) within the first hour. The smallest effect dose should be used. Over age 65 – Don’t take more than one tablet (caplet or gelcap every 12 hours unless directed by a doctor.
Pediatric Dosing Guidelines
- Do not give this product to children under age 12, except under the advice and supervision of a doctor.
Triage Questions About Treatment or Related Issues
- Is the patient allergic to any other pain reliever or fever reducer? Has the patient already been using another pain reliever or fever reducer for this condition?
- Is the patient allergic to naproxen containing medications?
- Does the patient consume 3 or more alcoholic beverages per day? If so, ask your if you can take naproxen sodium.
- Does the patient have any stomach problems or conditions?
General Information
MOA: Temporarily blocks the body’s production of prostaglandins (plays a direct role in pain and inflammation).
Only use drug for short-term treatment. Do not use more than 10 days for pain or more than 3 days for fever. Do not use with any other pain reliever/fever reducer. Do not give to children under age 12 unless directed by a doctor. Do not give more than 2 tablets in any 8-12 hour period or 3 tablets in any 24-hour period. If you are breast-feeding ask health professional before use. Do not use during the last 3 months of pregnancy unless specifically directed to do so by a doctor, because it may cause problems in the unborn child or complications during delivery
Adverse Reactions/Side Effects
May cause a severe allergic reaction (hives, facial swelling, asthma, wheezing, shock).
May cause stomach irritation.
