Effervescent Tablet and powder (dissolved in water to form solution)

Adult Dosing Guidelines

  • As a soak, soak the area in solution for 15 to 30 minutes three times a day.
  • As a wet dressing or compress, saturate a clean, white cloth with solution and apply loosely to affected area. Re-wet the cloth every 15 to 30 minutes and apply as often as needed.
  • To form the solution, place 1 tablet or 1 packet of powder in 1 pint of water and allow it to dissolve.

Pediatric Dosing Guidelines

  • Do not recommend for children under the age of six.

Triage Questions About Treatment or Related Issues

Does the affected area cover a large area of the body?

Has patient tried any other medications for this problem? Results?

How old is the patient?

Has the condition persisted longer than seven days or does it appear to clear up and then worsen?

Are there any underlying medical conditions or is patient taking any other medications?

General Information

The solution is an astringent, which minimizes oozing and discharge by coagulating protein. Do not cover wet compress with plastic. Avoid contact with eyes. For external use only. If symptoms persist for more than seven days, discontinue use and contact physician. This product interacts with topical collegenase, so before applying topical collagenase cleanse area of Burow’s solution with repeated washings of normal saline.
