Jan Pyrek
Ph.D.

Research Interests:

Dr. Pyrek is involved in different aspects of chemistry and biochemistry of natural products, with special attention to structural and metabolic studies of steroids and bile acids. In this area, main accomplishments include structure elucidation of plant sterols and terpenoids, acidic steroids produced during pregnancy, and identification of novel bile acids and their novel form of glucuronidation.

This and related research are based on the utilization of modern mass spectral methods, NMR and chemical synthesis, including stable isotope labeling. More recently, mass spectral methodology is applied to the characterization of peptides and proteins.
