UK Pharmacy Students Among Finalists in National Clinical Skills Competition
LEXINGTON, KY (Dec. 10, 2002) -- Fourth-year University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy Students Jessica Hughes and Christy Taylor were among the top 10 final teams competing this week during the 6th Annual National Clinical Skills Competition held at the American Society of Health-System Pharmacist’s (ASHP) meeting in Atlanta. Teams from the University of North Carolina and the South Dakota State University College of Pharmacy were eventual winners in the contest. Sixty-eight teams won preliminary competitions at their local pharmacy schools and participated in the activity which offers students the opportunity to review actual patient cases, demonstrate their skills in assessing a patient’s medical history, identify drug therapy problems and treatment goals, and recommend a pharmacist’s care plan, including monitoring variables and desired outcomes.
