Cui Receives Dissertation Year Fellowship LEXINGTON, KY (Feb. 22, 2002) -- Zhengrong Cui, a graduate student at the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy, has received a Dissertation Year Fellowship for the 2002-03 academic year. This fellowship is provided through the President's Office at UK and is designed to support a student in devoting full-time effort to dissertation research. The fellowship carries a 12-month stipend and full payment of tuition and health insurance. Cui, a native of Shannxi, China, is a third-year graduate student working with Russell Mumper, Ph.D., in the Division of Pharmaceutical Sciences in the College of Pharmacy. Cui's graduate research dissertation is titled "Pharmaceutically Engineered (Genetic) Vaccines Using Nanotechnology." The specific goal of the research is to enhance the potency of a new generation of vaccines, especially DNA-based (genetic) vaccines and protein subunit vaccines by developing novel delivery systems through nanotechnology. Prior to entering the graduate program at UK, Cui received his master's degree in plant pathology from the University of Wisconsin. He has published 10 scientific papers and abstracts based on his graduate research. |
