Robert Rapp Receives

2002 Parker Award

 

LEXINGTON, KY (Dec. 10, 2002) -- Robert Rapp, Pharm.D., professor at the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy and professor of surgery in the UK College of Medicine, has received the 2002 Paul F. Parker Award presented Dec. 10 during the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) Midyear Clinical Meeting in Atlanta.

 

The honor is annually given to a past resident of the UK Pharmacy Residency Program or to an individual intimately associated with the success of the program who has displayed sustained contribution to the profession in practice, teaching or research.  It also honors Paul F. Parker, the force behind establishing and developing one of the finest pharmacy residency programs in the country at UK. 

 

Rapp, who worked with Parker in planning the UK Pharmacy Residency Program, earned his B.S. degree in pharmacy from UK in 1963.  Following graduation, he accepted a position as staff pharmacist in the Department of Pharmacy Central Supply at the newly opened UK Hospital.  In 1970, Rapp was in the second Pharm.D. class graduated from the UK College of Pharmacy and subsequently became a faculty member at the College.

 

During his academic career, Rapp has published over 200 papers in professional and scientific literature and has been the author on numerous textbook chapters in infectious disease and microbiology.  He also has been involved in the training of 287 pharmacy residents who have completed the UK program and teaches microbiology, infectious disease pharmacotherapy, as well as serves as the preceptor in infectious disease for residents and Pharm.D. students.

 

Rapp serves as a consultant to the pharmaceutical industry and is a member of the American Society of Microbiology, the Society of Infectious Disease Pharmacists, and American Society of Health Systems Pharmacy, the American College of Clinical Pharmacy, and the Society for Hospital Epidemiology. He is a Fellow of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy, serves on the editorial board of the Annals of Pharmacotherapy, and as a reviewer for the American Journal of Health Systems Pharmacy.
