Ann Amerson named Fellow of APhA

Ann Amerson, Pharm.D., was named a Fellow of the American Pharmaceutical Association (APhA). She was initiated during a ceremony March 18, 2001, at the APhA 148th Annual Meeting and Exposition in San Francisco, Calif.

Dr. Amerson is professor and interim director of the Division of Pharmacy Practice and Science of the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy. She was director of the UK Drug Information Center of the Chandler Medical Center from 1974 to 1992. From 1992 to 1998 she was the college's clerkships coordinator, developing experiential training sites for Pharm.D. students. She also has been involved in the development of the college's Nontraditional Pharm.D. program since 1992.

Dr. Amerson has been active in the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists, fulfilling the
responsibilities of chair of the SIG on Drug and Poison Information Practice and the Commission on Therapeutics. In the American Pharmaceutical Association she is a member of the Scientific 
     

Review Panel for Evaluation of Drug Interactions, and she also participated in the OTC Guidelines Project Steering Committee. She has chaired the Clinical Sciences Section of APhA's Academy of Pharmaceutical Research and Science. In the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy she has held section offices and served as faculty delegate. Other AACP activities have included membership on the Academic Affairs Committee, serving as consultant to the Curricular Resources Consortium on the drug literature evaluation course, and chairing the Academic Sections Coordinating Committee. At the state level, she has served as chair of the Continuing Education Advisory Committee of the Kentucky Pharmacists Association.

In addition to serving as interim division director, Dr. Amerson also precepts Pharm.D. students on a hospice clerkship rotation. She has interests in effective drug information access and utilization, as well as student assessment for experiential learning.
