BRANDT APPOINTED TO
ACPE
Alexandria, Va. (May 30, 200) - The board of directors of the American
Association of Colleges of Pharmacy has appointed Barbara F. Brandt, Ph.D.,
associate professor of pharmacy practice at the University of Kentucky College
of Pharmacy, to serve a six-year term on the board of directors of the American
Council on Pharmaceutical Education (ACPE). Brandt's appointment will begin in
July 2000. She joins Hewitt W. "Ted" Matthews (Mercer University) and
Mary Anne Koda-Kimble (University of California, San Francisco) as
representatives of pharmaceutical education to ACPE.
Dr. Brandt earned both her master of education and
doctor of philosophy degrees in adult and continuing education at the University
of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She is nationally recognized for her work in
curriculum and faculty development and has been actively involved in the
conceptualization and delivery of recent AACP Teachers Seminars and AACP
Institutes, as well as foundational work on the AACP Master Teacher project for
teaching skills development.
In addition to her pedagogical interests, Brandt is
active in the health professions education and health care policy communities.
She is a 2000 Primary Care Policy Fellow and a consultant to the Office of
Pharmacy Affairs of the Bureau of Primary Health Care. She has worked closely
with the National Health Service Corps and other entities of the federal
government to promote the role and contribution of pharmacists in improving care
to the underserved.
Dr. Brandt will replace John W. Mauger, dean of the
University of Utah College of Pharmacy, who has served on the ACPE board of
directors on two occasions since 1988, most recently as ACPE president.
AACP, the national organization representing and
supporting all U.S. colleges and schools of pharmacy and their faculties, is
committed to education and scholarship for improving drug therapy.
