Richard Morrison Doughty, M., M.S., University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy professor emeritus, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 31, 2000, at the age of 78. Professor Doughty began his career with the College of Pharmacy in 1951, serving as assistant professor of materia medica until 1969, acting department chair from 1965-69, and assistant to the dean for alumni and student affairs until his retirement in 1986. He was actively involved in Poison Prevention Week programs throughout the commonwealth, and helped promote the college’s continuing education program as a lecturer when the program was established in 1970. Professor Doughty continued to be active in pharmacy programs following his retirement, and attended the Kentucky Pharmacists Association (KphA) Annual Meeting and Exposition in Louisville, Ky., in May 2000. “Dick was the quintessential faculty member: a scholar, teacher and friend of students,” said Thomas Foster, Pharm.D., longtime friend and associate. Professor Doughty is survived by his wife, Gloria Hartman Doughty, a former pharmacist with the outpatient pharmacy of the University’s A.B. Chandler Medical Center. A memorial service was conducted Sept. 3 at Park United Methodist Church in Lexington. Contributions may be made to Park United Methodist Church, 645 E.
