College Welcomes Three New Faculty Members in Pharmaceutical Sciences (Aug. 28, 2002) -- The University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy has announced the addition of three new faculty members in the Division of Pharmaceutical Sciences.
Charles D. Loftin, Ph.D., has been named assistant professor in the Division of Pharmaceutical Sciences. Dr. Loftin has a Bachelor of Science degree in pharmacy from Auburn University and a Ph.D. in toxicology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He most recently served as Research Fellow at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences in the Research Triangle Park. Dr. Loftin’s research focuses on the cardiovascular functions of the COX isoforms and the role of selective inhibitors.
Jürgen Rohr, Ph.D., has joined the College as professor in the Division of Pharmaceutical Sciences. Dr. Rohr has a Ph.D. in chemistry from Georg-August-Universität Göttingen where he also received his bachelor’s degree and master’s degree. He began his career as an assistant professor in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Göttingen, and most recently held the post of associate professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the Medical University of South Carolina. His research interests include drug design and discovery and modifying natural products as potential antibiotic and antitumor drugs.
Tonglei Li, Ph.D., has been named assistant professor in the Division of Pharmaceutical Sciences. Dr. Li has a Ph.D. in pharmaceutics from Purdue University, a master’s degree in computer science from Purdue University, and a master’s degree in computational chemistry and a bachelor’s degree in chemistry both from Nankai University in Tianjin, China. His most recent position was senior researcher at Purdue University in the Department of Industrial and Physical Pharmacy. He plans to conduct computational and experimental studies of pharmaceutical solid materials and design of novel delivery systems.
