LEXINGTON, KY (Aug. 24, 2002) – The University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy welcomed 100 students in the 2006 Pharm.D. class.  The incoming first-year professional class includes 31 males, 69 females, seven minorities, and 90 Kentucky residents.

New students spent three days before beginning classes, meeting faculty and staff and participating in workshops to orientate them to the College.

During the final orientation program, students recited the Pledge to Professionalism during a luncheon sponsored by CVS at the Hilary J. Boone Center.

They also received greetings and encouragement from Dean Kenneth B. Roberts, Ph.D., and Andrea Ray, chair of the Kentucky Alliance of Pharmacy Students, as well as from professional leaders in pharmacy including John Anneken, R.Ph., president of the Kentucky Pharmacist Association, Tom Foster, Pharm.D., president-elect of the Kentucky Board of Pharmacy and professor of pharmacy at UK, and Mike Anderson, Pharm.D., president of the Kentucky Society of Health Systems Pharmacists.

Dean Roberts challenged students to be aggressive in their studies and to choose to excel beyond the minimum requirements.  He also encouraged them to become aggressive professionals who will work to make a difference in people’s lives.

“In four years no one in any other profession will know more than you will about pharmaceuticals and how they can be best used,” Roberts said.

Overall, the College has 372 students enrolled in the Pharm.D. program including 84 students in the fourth-year professional class who are completing monthly externships in pharmacies, hospitals and other health care settings across Kentucky.
