Mills Wins College's Patient Counseling Competition

LEXINGTON, KY (Jan. 24, 2002) -- Jeff Mills, fourth-year pharmacy student from Beckley, W.Va., was the winner of the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy Patient Counseling Competition held Jan. 17.  Twelve pharmacy students competed in the local competition sponsored by the Kentucky Alliance of Pharmacy Students (KAPS).

Mills will represent UK at the American Pharmaceutical Association (APhA) Academy of Students of Pharmacy (APhA-ASP) National Patient Counseling Competition at APhA’s 148th Annual Meeting and Exposition in Philadelphia.

The goal of the National Patient Counseling Competition is to encourage pharmacy students in their efforts toward becoming better patient educators. The competition is designed to reflect the changes that have already occurred in pharmacy practice, to promote and encourage further professional development, and to demonstrate to students that there is genuine commitment of faculty to the concept of professional growth through innovation.
