Romanelli Named Bluegrass Pharmacists Association's 2002 Pharmacist of the Year
LEXINGTON, KY (Dec. 10, 2002) -- Frank Romanelli, Pharm.D., assistant professor and clinical specialist in HIV/AIDS at the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy, has been named the Bluegrass Pharmacy Association’s (BPhA) 2002 Pharmacist of the Year.
The award is given annually to a pharmacist member of the association who has exemplified the professional aspects of pharmacy through commitment to patient care. Romanelli was selected to receive the 2002 award based on his work with HIV/ AIDS patients and his additional commitment related to the sharing of this information through continuing education with his fellow pharmacists.
Romanelli, who holds a join appointment as assistant professor of physician assistant studies in the UK College of Health Sciences, maintains an active practice within the UK Infectious Disease Clinic, specializing as a clinical pharmacy specialist in HIV/AIDS. In this capacity, he counsels and educates patients with regard to HIV and AIDS, as well as the proper use of antiretroviral medications. He also serves as a preceptor for pharmacy and physician assistant students and pharmacy residents at the Infectious Disease Clinic.
A native of Waterbury, Conn., Romanelli received his bachelor’s degree and doctor of pharmacy degree at the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy in Boston. He also completed a clinical residency at UK from 1996 to 1998. Following the residency program, he joined the faculty of the UK College of Pharmacy. He received the Outstanding Professor Award from third-year pharmacy students in 1999 and 2001, the Outstanding Faculty Member Award from fourth-year pharmacy students in 2000, 2001 and 2002 and was named the Honorary Professor of the Year in the College of Health Sciences in 2001.
