STUDENTS ELECTED TO OFFICE IN NATIONAL ORGANIZATION

Two University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy students were elected to office during the American Pharmaceutical Association-Academy of Students of Pharmacy (APha-ASP) MRM Region 4 meeting in Detroit, Mich.

DEBRA FLORES (first professional year) was elected as MRM coordinator for the 2000 Region 4 meeting, to take place in Cincinnati, Ohio. She will be in charge of setting up a College of Pharmacy exposition exhibit and arranging promotional/social events for the students.

LAURA BLOODWORTH (first professional year) will serve as regional delegate to the APHA-ASP annual meeting in Washington, D.C., in March 2000. As delegate, she plans to arrange for the students to meet with senators and members of Congress to discuss issues in pharmacy.

JEAN SCHRECK (third professional year) was voted president-elect of APhA-ASP during the 1999 meeting and will be inducted into office in March. She is the second UK College of Pharmacy student elected to head the national student organization this decade. May 1999 graduate Jessika Stewart-Chinn served as president in 1997-98.

The College of Pharmacy congratulates its students on continuing the tradition of involvement and service to the Commonwealth and the nation.

BIG BROTHERS/BIG SISTERS AWARD

Kappa Psi Fraternity has been honored by Big Brothers/Big Sisters of the Bluegrass Inc. for its efforts in fund-raising. As a result of the 1999 Bowl-a-Thon, Kappa Psi was the top contributor for a college organization. Kappa Psi President Joel Spaulding and faculty adviser Kenneth Record, Pharm.D., were presented the plaque at a luncheon on Jan. 20. Kappa Psi Pharmaceutical Fraternity Inc. is the world's oldest pharmacy fraternity, with 66 collegiate and 40 graduate chapters in the U.S. and Canada.

PATIENT COUNSELING COMPETITION WINNER

Third-year professional student Jason Humphies is the winner of the College of Pharmacy's 2000 Patient Counseling Competition. Jason will compete in the national competition during the American Pharmaceutical Association (APhA) annual meeting March 10-14 in Washington, D.C.
