Amphotericin B
Preparation - only in Dextrose 5% in water - a colloidal dispersion, not a true solution.
Dose - 0.5 - 1.2 mg/kg day - usually dosed to some total dose, ie 500 mg - 2000 mg, depending on the infection.
Premediation - very important for patient discomfort - due to release of cytokines
- Acetominophen, ibuprofen, diphenhydramine, adequate hydration, small amount of steroid.
