What do I need in order to accept the Plus Account?

Each location accepting the UK Plus Account will need a Verifone Tranz 330, 380, or 380x2, a Verifone Printer, and a telephone line. A Verifone 330 or 380 will be solely dedicated to the Plus Account. The Verifone 380x2 may be used for the Plus Account and another application such as Visa® or MasterCard®.

Does the Plus Account Office charge a fee to merchants accepting the Plus Account?

Yes. The Plus Account office will charge an annual maintenance fee of $35 for each location accepting the Plus Account and, a small fee per transaction.

How long does it take to receive reimbursement for Plus Account sales?

Payments are made within 15 days after the end of the reimbursement period. Reimbursement periods are the 1st through the 15th and the 16th through the end of the month.

Do I purchase the Verifone Tranz 330, 380, or 380x2 from the Plus Account Office directly?

No. The Plus Account Office does not sell Verifone equipment. Several businesses have successfully purchased the equipment from Ebay. Our office can provide you with additional contact information.

What are the differences between the Tranz 330, 380, and 380x2?

The 330 and 380 models will only accept the Plus Account transactions. The 380x2 has the ability to accept the Plus Account and another card format, such as a credit card. If you accept credit cards, check with your banking institution about compatibility.

Do I need to get another telephone line to accept the Plus Account?

Not necessarily. The Verifone has an additional built-in jack so it can be used with an existing voice, modem or fax line. Processing a transaction will tie-up the telephone line, you will need to decide if a second telephone line is required.

Is there anything special about the phone line needed for the Verifone equipment?

The phone line must be a standard analog telephone line.

How long will it take before I can begin accepting the Plus Account?

After you have received your Verifone equipment, you will need to contact the Plus Account Office to schedule a time to have your reader programmed. The Plus Account Office should have your reader programmed and your business accepting the Plus Account within two to three business days.

Do I need to submit an invoice to be reimbursed?

No. The Plus Account Office will process payments based on the transactions received during the agreed upon reimbursement period.

Is it ok to charge students a fee for using the Plus Account to help offset the fees charged by the Plus Account Office?

No. Merchants cannot discriminate between cash customers and Plus Account card holders with respect to the purchase price of goods and services. Merchants cannot add any service charge, finance charge, carrying charge or other charge of any kind to the cash price of any merchandise or services sold in any transaction involving the use of the Plus Account.

What marketing does the Plus Account provide for my business?

All merchants accepting the Plus Account are listed on our web site with their address, telephone number, and link to their web site if applicable. The Plus Account Office will also run ads in the Kentucky Kernel, and have brochures available. The Plus Account Office will provide window clings and posters for businesses accepting the Plus Account.

Can I advertise that I accept the Plus Account?

Beyond the windows clings or other promotional materials provided by the Plus Account Office, your business can advertise that you accept the UK Plus Account or the University of Kentucky Plus Account. However, you cannot use any University of Kentucky trademarked logos, which includes athletic logos.

How do I reconcile at the end of the business day if I am using a Tranz 330, 380, or 380x2?

The Verifone readers have a report that is used for reconciliation built into the programming. The report is different than a report for Visa® or MasterCard®. This report will only give a total of all transactions since the last time the reader was reconciled.

You will be trained on all aspects of the reader upon installation.

What should I do if I accidentally overcharge someone?

To process a refund: push "2," swipe card when asked for the account number, enter the amount to be refunded. If you have questions you should contact The Dining & Plus Account Office (859) 257-6159.

How long does a transaction take to process on a Verifone reader?

Approximately 25 seconds.

What printers are compatible with the Tranz 330, 380, 380x2?

Typically we see models 250 and 900.
