University of Kentucky Police Officers must be able to engage in on the job problem solving and initiate crime prevention measures whenever possible. Officers must utilize a variety of patrol techniques and strategies to ensure the safety and security of all persons and property on and about the University of Kentucky campus. This includes, but is not limited to, traffic enforcement, foot patrol, bicycle patrol, making criminal arrests; providing basic first aid, and performing investigations. In addition, officers are expected to possess a strong desire to not only participate in, but also create and organize community service programs.
Minimum Applicant QualificationsUniversity of Kentucky Police Dispatchers serve as lifelines for all emergency responders on campus. This includes Campus Security, Medical Center Security, and UK Police. A successful dispatcher must be able to remain calm in all situations and be able to determine the appropriate level of emergency response required for a given incident based on a minimal amount of information. In addition, dispatchers must be able to multi-task communications through radio, telephone, computer, in person, or any other medium while maintaining high levels of customer service. Dispatchers also serve as a point of contact and liaison for Lexington Police, Lexington Fire, and other public safety officials. Candidates must be able to work weekends, holidays, and special events.
Minimum Applicant QualificationsUniversity of Kentucky Police Security personnel provide security services at Chandler, Samaritan, and Kentucky Clinic Hospitals. This includes various forms of patrol including foot, bicycle, and security camera observation. Candidates must have the ability to respond quickly and calmly to sensitive situations that require strong interpersonal skills and possible levels or physical control. Officers also perform basic investigative review and prioritize information for security reports. Security officers are required to attend safety training on law enforcement and health care related subjects.
