2007 Crime Bulletins

Robbery

October 30, 2007

At approximately 2:50 a.m., a male student reported to UK Police that he had been robbed at the corner of University Dr. and Complex Dr. The victim stated that he walked passed three males standing in the area and was struck from behind and knocked to the ground. Victim stated that one suspect implied they had weapons and demanded his valuables. He turned over his wallet and cell phone. The suspects then fled east bound on Complex Dr. in a small to mid-sized SUV.

All three suspects are male; two are believed to be African American, a description of the third is unknown.

UK Police offer the following safety precautions:

  • Carry a cell phone or other personal safety device.
  • Do not travel alone after dark; always walk with a friend or with a group.
  • Always be aware of your surroundings and what other people around you are doing.
  • Request an escort by calling the UK Campus Escort Program "SAFECATS" at 257-SAFE (7233) or UK Police at 257-1616.
  • Request taxi service through UK Genesis "Taxicats" at 381-1010.
  • Park only in well lit areas.
  • If you see anyone acting suspicious, go to the nearest phone and call 911 or use your cellular phone by dialing #UKPD (#8573).
  • Be aware of where the emergency phones are located.

If you are accosted, COMPLY with the demands of your assailant and report the incident immediately to UK Police by dialing 911 or #UKPD (#8573) from a cell phone.


Assault

October 8, 2007

On Monday, October 08, 2007, a female student notified UK Police that she had been assaulted by an unknown male while walking on the sidewalk along Huguelet Drive in the early morning hours around 4 a.m. The victim filed a report with UK police at 6:48 p.m.. She advised police that her assailant sprayed her in the face with an unknown substance believed to possibly have been pepper spray then grabbed her forcing her to the ground where she was struck in the face twice before the assailant fled. The only description the victim could provide is that her assailant was about 5'11" wearing a t-shirt and shorts with hairy arms and legs.

Sexual Assault

September 15, 2007

On Saturday, September 15, 2007 a female student reported to University of Kentucky Police that an unknown suspect attempted to sexually assault her behind the Lancaster Aquatic Center at 416 Complex Drive. The attempted sexual assault occurred around 7:30 p.m. and involved an unknown suspect.
The suspect is described as a white male, 6'5" to 6'6", very thin build, possibly 175-180 pounds with short brown hair, pale complexion, with a little bit of stubble to his beard. The subject was wearing black shorts, red t-shirt, and white tennis shoes with black stripes.

  • Carry a cell phone or other personal safety device.
  • Do not travel alone after dark; always walk with a friend or with a group.
  • Always be aware of your surroundings and what other people around you are doing.
  • If you choose to drink, be responsible! Alcohol clouds decision-making and increases confidence, a combination that often leads to risky situations.
  • If you see a subject matching the above description or anyone acting suspicious, go to the nearest phone and call 911.

Sexual Assault

July 15, 2007

On Sunday, July 15, 2007 two females reported to Lexington Police that they had been sexually assaulted in a parking lot just off of Scott Street. The sexual assault occurred between 1:45 a.m. and 2:00 a.m. and involved an unknown suspect.

The suspect is described as a white male, 5'7", with short hair, possibly shaved. He was wearing a black hat, black shirt and khaki shorts. The suspect implied he had a weapon.

  • Always be aware of your surroundings and what other people around you are doing.
  • If you choose to drink, be responsible! Alcohol clouds decision-making and increases confidence, a combination that often leads to risky situations.
  • Carry a cell phone or other personal safety device.

Attempted Kidnapping

June 20, 2007

The University of Kentucky Police Department is investigating an attempted kidnapping of a minor. The incident occurred on Tuesday, June 19, 2007, between 5:45 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. at Shawneetown Apartments, 1608 University Court.
The suspect is described as a black male in his 50's, 5'9", with short black hair, a mustache and goatee. He was wearing black glasses and a short-sleeved white shirt with light blue stripes. He was driving a purple, 4-door car.
Anyone with information concerning this incident is encouraged to contact the UK Police Department at 257-1616.
UK Police offer the following safety precautions for protecting minors:

  • Know where your child is at ALL TIMES.
  • Remember that anyeffort taken to protect your child is a measurable effort.
  • It is okayfor your child tosay "NO" to an adult stranger.
  • Teach them who a stranger is and that it's not permissible to go anywhere or do anything with them.
  • Teach them that it is okay to tell you or other authorities about a stranger that is bothering them.
  • Make sure they know their phone number, address, and how to call on the police—911.
  • It is always good to have a file on your child that has their photo, finger prints, complete description, and any and all medical issues.
  • If you as a parent have a bad feeling about a person--CALL THE POLICE.
