2012 Crime Bulletins

CRIMINAL MISCHIEF / ATTEMPTED ARSON
November 7, 2012

In the interest of safety, the University of Kentucky Police Department has issued the following Crime Bulletin for the UK community.          

  • On Wednesday, November 7, 2012, it was reported to UK Police that a fire had occurred on the previous evening of November 6th, 2012 at approximately 10:30 p.m. in the 1st floor bathroom of Kirwan 1 Residence Hall.  It was indicated that the 1st floor bathroom had a strong burning smell with burned toilet paper and ash residue. 

During the course of the investigation, it was discovered that two additional fire incidents had recently occurred in Kirwan 1 Residence Hall.  On October 27, 2012, it was noticed that a portion of poster board located in the basement of Kirwan 1 Residence Hall had been burned.  On November 1, 2012, burned paper towels were discovered near the trash can in the 2nd floor bathroom of Kirwan 1 Residence Hall. 

Each of these incidents is independent of one another, and each fire appeared to have been extinguished prior to its discovery. No injuries have been reported as a result of these incidents.

ATTEMPTED ARMED ROBBERY
September 29, 2012

In the interest of safety, the University of Kentucky Police Department has issued the following Crime Bulletin for the UK community.

  • Shortly before 1 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012, UK Police received a delayed report regarding an attempted armed robbery that occurred outside the Kentucky Clinic Ambulance Entrance on Rose Street. The victim, an adult male who is not a UK student, was approached by one unknown male subject. The subject, who was reportedly intoxicated, displayed to the victim what is believed to be a chrome handgun and demanded the victim’s belongings. After the victim stated that he did not have anything, the suspect fled the scene and was last seen by the victim running east, toward Huguelet Drive.

The suspect is described as a black male in his early 20s, medium build, approximately 5’9” tall, 180lbs., clean shaven, with short, wavy hair, wearing a blue UK basketball jersey with no shirt underneath, black athletic shorts, and blue and grey retro basketball shoes.

ASSAULT
September 12, 2012

In the interest of safety, the University of Kentucky Police Department has issued the following Crime Bulletin for the UK community.

  • At approximately 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 11, 2012, an assault occurred on the second floor of the W.T. Young Library on University of Kentucky’s campus.  The victim, a female UK student, was reportedly assaulted with an unknown sharp object causing minor injury to her foot.  A suspicious individual was seen in the area and described as a heavy set male, approximately 5’7” to 5’9” tall, wearing a black and white ball cap, black tennis shoes, and carrying a black and silver briefcase/laptop case.  He was last seen walking toward the stairwell of the second floor Core 4 area of W.T. Young Library.  UK Police received two similar reports in April of 2011.

ASSAULT
August 25, 2012

In the interest of safety, the University of Kentucky Police Department has issued the following Crime Bulletin for the UK Community.

  • At approximately 3:20 a.m. on Saturday, August 25, 2012, an assault occurred near 460 Hilltop Avenue behind the Kappa Sigma Fraternity House on the University of Kentucky campus.  The victim, a male UK student, was approached from behind by three unknown subjects and reportedly struck in the back of the head and face and chased by the suspects toward the Kirwan-Blanding Complex.  The suspects then ran towards Hilltop Avenue.  The first suspect is described as a thin black male with short hair, approximately 18-20 years old, 5’8” tall, and wearing a black shirt, black shorts and black shoes.  The second suspect is described as a thin black male with short hair, approximately 18-20 years old, 6’2” tall, and wearing a yellow shirt, black pants and black shoes.  The third suspect is described as a thin white male, approximately 6’2” tall, and wearing a gray shirt with dark pants.  An unidentified witness told the victim they had observed the three suspects leaving the scene in a blue vehicle.

ROBBERY
August 22, 2012

In the interest of safety, the University of Kentucky Police Department has issued the following Crime Bulletin for the UK community.

  • At approximately 6:40 p.m. on Wednesday, August 22, 2012, a robbery occurred in the sidewalk area of Complex Drive near the Johnson Student Recreation Center on University of Kentucky’s campus.  The victim, a female UK student, was approached by one unknown male subject.  He reportedly took the victim’s cellular phone from her hand without causing any injury.  No weapons were seen or implied during the course of the crime.  The suspect is described as a thin black male with short hair, approximately 18 to 20 years old, 5’10” to 6’ tall, and wearing a gray t-shirt with red lettering and khaki shorts.  The suspect was last seen running up the steps towards the Kirwan-Blanding Dorm Complex on south campus.

ROBBERY
August 20, 2012

In the interest of safety, the University of Kentucky Police Department has issued the following Crime Bulletin for the UK community.

The UK Police Department has been informed that the following crime, which has occurred near the UK campus, is being investigated by the Lexington Division of Police:

  • At approximately 11:40 p.m. on Sunday, August 19, 2012, a robbery occurred in the area of Newtown Crossing Apartments. The victim, a UK student, was approached by two black males with shirts across their faces as masks.  One of the suspects presented a black handgun.  The suspects were last seen heading towards the Scott Street area. The victim was reportedly robbed of personal property.  The suspects are described as two black males, approximately 5’10”.  No clothing description was given.

Sexual Assualt / Robbery

August 6, 2012~ UPDATE

In the interest of safety, the University of Kentucky Police Department has issued the following UPDATE to the August 5, 2012 Crime Bulletin for the UK community.

The UK Police Department has been informed that upon further investigation by the Lexington Division of Police, additional details have been obtained surrounding the assault that took place on August 5, 2012, which occurred near the UK campus.

  • At approximately 2:30 a.m. on the date of Sunday, August 5, 2012, a sexual assault and robbery occurred near 665 South Limestone.  The female victim was approached by one suspect, described to be a thin black male in his 20s, and possibly another suspect with an unknown description.  The victim stated she was robbed and sexually assaulted, causing serious injuries.  No weapon was seen or implied during the course of the crime.

At approximately 2:30 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 5, 2012, an assault occurred near 665 South Limestone (across South Limestone from the Washington Avenue intersection).  The female victim was approached by one male black suspect, and possibly another suspect with an unknown description, and assaulted causing minor injuries.  No weapon was seen or implied during the course of the crime.

ROBBERY

May 18, 2012

In the interest of safety, the University of Kentucky Police Department has issued the following Crime Bulletin for the UK community.

The UK Police Department has been informed that the following crime, which has occurred near the UK campus, is being investigated by the Lexington Division of Police:

  • At approximately 10:55pm on the date of Friday, May 18, 2012, a strong arm robbery occurred in a parking lot in the area of South Limestone and Transcript Avenue. The victim, a male UK student, was approached by 10 to 16 unknown subjects.  The suspects reportedly robbed the victim of personal property, knocked him to the ground and assaulted him causing minor injuries.  No weapon was seen or implied during the course of the crime.  The suspects are described as 10 to 15 black males and one white female and were last seen running in the direction of Broadway.

Criminal Mischief
March 21, 2012

In the interest of safety, the University of Kentucky Police Department has issued the following Crime Bulletin for the UK community.           

  • On Wednesday, March 21, it was reported that a fire had occurred in an outdoor garbage receptacle in the Kirwan-Blanding Complex, between Kirwan III and Kirwan IV. During the course of the investigation, it was noted that three additional outdoor garbage receptacles within the Complex were also damaged by fire. These garbage receptacles are independent of one another, and were each a separate incident. The fires were extinguished prior to their discovery. No injuries have been reported as a result of these incidents.
