2017 Crime Bulletins

ARSON
August 16, 2017

In the interest of safety, the University of Kentucky Police Department has issued the following Crime Bulletin for the UK community.
On Tuesday, August 15, 2017, the University of Kentucky Police Department received a report of damage caused by a small fire to an elevator in Jewell Hall, 344 South Martin Luther King Blvd.  A paper flier that hung in the elevator was burned, also causing damage to the protective tarp that covers the elevator walls.  The flier was hung in the elevator on August 11, 2017 and the fire damage was noticed on August 15, 2017.  There was minimal damage and no injuries were reported. 
The University of Kentucky values a safe community for all students, staff, faculty, and visitors. In the interest of promoting a safe and secure campus environment, UK Police offer the following safety precautions:

  • If you see something, say something. For emergencies, call 911.
  • Carry a cell phone to be able to call for help in emergencies.
  • In the event that you smell smoke, dial 911 immediately.
  • If you locate a fire, pull a fire alarm and then dial 911. Do NOT attempt to extinguish a fire unless you are properly trained to do so.
  • Anytime a fire alarm is activated, EVACUATE the building immediately.
  • Know the primary and secondary escape routes for each of your locations, should an actual fire occur.

SEXUAL ABUSE
April 27, 2017

In the interest of safety, the University of Kentucky Police Department has issued the following Crime Bulletin for the UK community.
On Thursday, April 27, 2017, the University of Kentucky Police received a report of Sexual Abuse of a student on campus that occurred on April 26, 2017 during the time between 12:50 a.m. and 2 a.m.  It was reported that the student requested an Uber ride and entered the vehicle of the Uber car service driver at 12:50 a.m. from a local establishment for a ride back to her residence hall on campus.  The Uber driver passed the residence hall and proceeded to Parking Structure #2 at 301 Hilltop Ave.  The student reported being kissed and touched inappropriately on the outside of her clothing. The Uber vehicle is described as a red, 4-door, Chevrolet Spark. The driver is described to be a white male, approximately 33 years old, 5’10” tall and weighing 200 lbs., with brown hair and brown eyes.

MOTOR SCOOTER THEFT
April 24, 2017

In the interest of safety, the University of Kentucky Police Department has issued the following Crime Bulletin for the University of Kentucky Campus.

The University of Kentucky Police Department received reports of stolen motor scooters on the following dates from the following locations:  

  • One from in front of Woodland Glen III between 7 p.m. Sunday, April 16, and 2:45 p.m. Monday, April 17, 2017.
  • One from in front of Miller Hall at 1 a.m. Monday, April 17, 2017.
  • One from the area around the Mathews Building at 12:30 a.m. Thursday, April 20, 2017.
  • Three from in front of Woodland Glen II between Thursday evening, April 20, and Friday, April 21, 2017.

The suspects in several of the thefts are described as three black male individuals in their 20s, between 5’11” and 6’6” and wearing dark hooded sweatshirts, sweatpants, and white shoes.  One of the suspects was wearing camouflage shorts. (depicted below)

  • Whenever possible, avoid thefts of opportunity and secure property with a lock. Opportunity theft is the direct result of property and valuables left unattended and unsecured, even for short periods of time, which provides a thief with the opportunity to steal your valuables.
  • Maintain a thorough record of your valuables, to include photographs, serial numbers, makes and models, etc.

 


SEXUAL ASSAULT
January 17, 2017

In the interest of safety, the University of Kentucky Police Department has issued the following Crime Bulletin for the UK community.
On Monday, January 16, 2017, it was reported that a female student was the victim of a sexual assault in a residence hall room by a male known to her.  The suspect is not a UK student and is described as a white male, 5’10”, 200 lbs. with blue eyes and brown hair.
