Crime Information

The University of Kentucky Police Department reports all crimes to the Kentucky State Police and Federal Bureau of Investigation using the National Incident Based Reporting System (NIBRS).

These statistics include additions to what is required by the Federal Campus Crime and Security (Clery) Act and Kentucky Campus and Crime Security (Minger) Act.  Detailed information concerning the UK Police Department, an on-line Daily Crime Report, and the many safety and security programs we have to offer can be found at www.uky.edu/police. Feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns by calling (859)257-1616.

Should you have any questions concerning the Federal Campus Crime and Security (Clery) Act or Kentucky Campus and Crime Security (Minger) Act Annual Reports, please call the University of Kentucky Office of Emergency Management at (859)257-6655 or visit their website, www.uky.edu/EM.

Voluntary Confidential Reporting Policy

If you are the victim of a crime and do not want to pursue action within the University system or the criminal justice system, you may still want to consider making a confidential report.  With your permission, the Chief of Police or a management level designee at the University can file a report on the details of the incident without revealing your identity.  The purpose of a confidential report is to comply with your wish to keep the matter confidential, while taking steps to ensure the future safety of yourself and others.  Within such information, the University can keep an accurate record of the number of incidents involving students, determine where there is a pattern or crime with regard to a particular location, method, or assailant, and alert the campus community to potential danger.  Reports filed in this matter are counted and disclosed in the annual crimes statistics for the institution.

Limited Voluntary Confidential Reporting

The UK Police Department encourages anyone who is the victim or witness to any crime to promptly report the incident to the police.  Because police reports are public records under state law, the UK Police Department cannot hold reports of crime in confidence.  Confidential reports for purposes of inclusion in the annual disclosure of crime statistics can generally be made to other UK campus security authorities, as identified below.
