Special Operations - Executive Protection Team
The University of Kentucky Police Department, in recent years, has developed, trained, and implemented an organized dignitary protection team. The reason for this team’s implementation was due to the onset of visiting State, Federal, and controversial individuals to the University. The police department has always provided security to the above mentioned dignitaries; however they were never formally trained to do so. Another reason for the creation of this team was to better protect the interests of the University, the police department, and provide efficient competent security to a visiting dignitary. EPT members (both men and women) have received extensive formal training with such agencies as; the US Secret Service, US Capital Police, and the US Army's Protective Services Division. EPT continues to train in-house quarterly and with the Louisville Police Department’s Dignitary Protection Team on a monthly basis. Because of their skills with dignitary protection, the EPT has control over security operations of the Board of Trustees meetings. In addition to this assignment, the EPT members are asked to conduct threat assessments for incidents of threats to university staff, faculty, administrators, and even students.
Some of the persons that have received the services of the UK Executive
Protection Team have included former Foreign Heads of State, Government
Dignitaries, Religious Leaders, Corporate Leadership, and well known
Entertainment figures.
