Special Operations - Narcotics Detection K-9

 

Detective Sgt. Robert McPherson has been a Police Officer for 15 years. He is currently assigned to UK Police Investigations. He is partnered with “Gus”, UK police newest member of the K-9 Unit. Gus is a 75 pound black lab that was trained in New Smyrna Beach, Fla. at Southern Hills Kennel’s. Gus is trained to detect the following narcotics: Marijuana, Crack Cocaine, Heroin, Cocaine, Methamphetamine and MDMA (Ecstasy). Gus and Sgt. McPherson received certification through the American Detection Canine Association in December of 2005. Gus is a passive alert trained drug dog. This means when he locates drugs he sits and stares at the area he his detecting the odor of narcotics. He is then rewarded with a tennis ball. Training for Sgt. McPherson and purchase of the drug dog and the related equipment was funded through monies seized as apart of drug trafficking arrest made by members of UK Police.
