Seed longevity and deterioration Storage of crop plants inevitably leads to seed deterioration. This is first evidenced by reduced seed vigor followed by a loss of viability. Studies in this area have focused on understanding biochemical changes that determine seed deterioration and on mathematical models that can be used to predict seed longevity under various storage environments.
