Vice President for Institutional Diversity

I am pleased to announce that two outstanding finalists for the position of Vice President for Institutional Diversity will be visiting the campus in January.
An open forum has been scheduled for you to meet Dr. Judy “JJ” Jackson, Dean of the College and Associate Professor of Education at Vassar College on Wednesday, January 9 from 3:30 – 4:30 p.m. in 209 Main Building.
Dr. Jackson received her B.A. in French Language and Literature from the University of North Carolina, Greensboro, her M.A. in an Interdepartmental Study involving Francophone Literature, Geography, and Foreign Policy from Bucknell University, and her Ed.D. from Harvard University. Her doctoral dissertation was a comparative study of engineering faculty productivity to provide empirical grounding for improving faculty development and assessment programs. Her papers and publications are on the topic of faculty diversity. From 1989-2000 Dr. Jackson held various positions at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology ranging from Associate Dean for Undergraduate Education & Student Affairs, Director of Minority Education, to Special Advisor to the Provost on Faculty Diversity. She has also worked at Cornell University College of Engineering in student support capacities. In her current position as Dean of the College at Vassar, Dr. Jackson is responsible for a broad array of offices that assist students with both their academic and non-academic lives.
An open forum has been scheduled for you to meet Dr. Overtoun Jenda, Professor of Mathematics and Associate Provost, Diversity and Multicultural Affairs at Auburn University on Thursday, January 17 from 3:30 – 4:30 p.m. in 209 Main Building.
Dr. Jenda received his B.Sc. (with Distinction) from the University of Malawi, and his M.A. and Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Kentucky (where he worked with Professor Edgar Enochs). His primary research area is homological and commutative algebra, where he has published extensively. He has been on the faculty of Auburn since 1988, rising through the ranks. From 2000-2005 he served as Associate Dean for Diversity and Special Academic Projects in the College of Sciences and Mathematics. Dr. Jenda developed a Minority Drop-In Center for academic support, and represents Auburn in the Alabama Louis Stokes Alliance and the Graduate Education Alliance funded by NSF. Prior to joining Auburn, he held faculty positions at the University of Malawi. In his current position as Associate Provost, diversity and Multicultural Affairs at Auburn, which he assumed in 2006, Dr. Jenda serves as the Chief Diversity Officer and oversees the implementation of the university’s Strategic Diversity Plan.
