How to Figure Your GPA

  • The GPA is equal to the number of Quality Points (QP) divided by the number of Quality Hours (QH).
  • Quality Hours (QH) = total number of hours for courses student received a grade of A, B, C, D or E (including + and - grades).
  • Quality Points (QP) = number of credit hours per course multiplied by the value of the grade received. Example values: A=4, B=3, C=2, D=1, E=0.
  • Courses with grades of P, F, I, S, W, or AU do not figure in GPA calculations.
Sample Grade Point Average Calculation
Course Grade QH G.P. Equivalent Total QP
PSY 100 C 4 2.0 8.0
CHE 105 E 3 0.0 0.0
ENG 101 B+ 3 3.3 9.9
PHY 211 B- 5 2.7 13.5
Total:   15   31.4
31.4 QP ÷ 15 QH = 2.09 G.P.A.
