For Applicants and Incoming Students
Optional - Before Your Advising Conference
You will take care of most of your pre-enrollment decisions at your Advising Conference but you might prefer to do some of the following now.
Set Up Your Email and Computing Accounts.
Once accepted as a student of the University of Kentucky, you will have Exchange Active Directory computing accounts automatically created for you. These accounts are the primary means by which you will access UK's computing resources.
To activate your account, visit UK Computing's Customer Service Center and follow the instructions given.
Explore UK's Undergraduate Major Programs.
If you haven't decided on a major (or even if you have), be sure to check out UK's many undergraduate majors. You'll find all our major program offerings, as well as their requirements in printable pdf format.
Apply to the Honors Program.
If you are a highly-motivated student with an outstanding high school GPA, be sure to check out the UK Honors Program.
Entering students should have a high school grade point average (3.5 unweighted GPA or better, as demonstrated by transcript through at least the first half of your senior year) and a documented composite score of 28 or above on the ACT or 1240 or above on the SAT-I. The Admissions Committee considers all aspects of an applicant's record; a student's test scores and GPA are only two of the factors considered.
You can download a pdf version of the Honors Program application.
The deadline for incoming freshmen is January 15, 2007.
Apply for a Parking Permit.
If you plan to bring a car to campus, you may want to sign up for a K Permit, which allows you to park at Commonwealth Stadium. You can apply online between June 1 and July 31. Parking permits are issued on a first-come, first-served basis.
Be sure to check out UK's Campus Bus and Shuttle services that offer convenient and timely free transportation for students.
Learn About the University Health Service.
UK's University Health Service provides full-time students with outpatient services that cover many of their basic health needs. Other services are provided on a fee-for-service basis.
The health fee is part of the mandatory registration fee paid by full-time students. Part-time students may elect to pre-pay the health fee to entitle them to receive the same covered benefits as full-time students, or they may use the Health Service on a fee-for-service basis.
Get Your WildCard UK ID.
You can get your WildCard UK identification at the WildCard ID Center, Monday through Friday between 9 A.M. and 5 P.M. The Center is located in 107 Student Center. You'll need to bring a photo ID as well as $15.00, payable with cash, check, Plus Account, Visa, or MasterCard. Your WildCard will not be valid until the beginning of the semester.
Register With the Disability Resource Center.
Students with documented physical, learning, or temporary disabilities may receive assistance and support from the Disability Resource Center . Many students register during their Advising Conference and we recommended that students register early. However, students are welcome to come in and register at any time.
The Disability Resource Center is located in Alumni Gym, Room 2, (859) 257-2754.
Apply for Student Employment.
If you're planning to work a part-time job during the school year, be sure to check out the listings at UK's Student Employment Office. Student Employment has links to job openings both on and off-campus in various fields with assorted skills, pay rates and flexible schedules.
