Information Systems Support Services |
Help Desk |
The Information Systems Help Desk is the source for technical support for computing and communications at the University of Kentucky. The Help Desk office is located in 110 McVey Hall and is open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. This office provides services to all faculty, staff, and students, in the form of access (User IDs) to computing facilities, assistance using desktop and mainframe applications, assistance finding technical support from other areas within the University, and assistance with remote access concerns. Motor Pool |
Provides
a pool of vehicles, which may be used by University units for off-campus

Medical Center PPD Kelly Building |
Provides support services for Medical Center Building; including maintenance,
repairs, operations, custodial services, minor renovations, and related

Postal Services Department |
Postal Services provides full service in mailing domestic, 1st,
and 3rd class, UPS, priority, international, and special services
mail, including registered and certified. |

Purchasing Division |
This division secures necessary supplies, equipment, and services where
and when needed, at a reasonable price. The services provided include
execution of buying functions, source of specifications, source of comparative

Stores Operations |
This is a self-supporting department that supplies all University system
units with commonly used supplies and materials ranging from general office
supplies to computer hardware and software. Most deliveries of these materials
are made within two (2) working days of receipt of order. Prices are usually
below commercial market prices. |

Stores-Computer Store |
The UK Computer Store is the operating unit of the Stores Department
which maintains an inventory of computer hardware and software for resale
to University departments and personal sales to individual faculty, staff,
and students. |
|
|
Textbook Ordering |
Coordinates all textbook orders and distributes forms for ordering. Current
deadlines are April 1 for summer and fall semesters and November 1 for
spring semester. Notices of deadlines are sent routinely by the Center.

|
University Bookstore |
Offers a complete line of textbook and classroom materials, as well as
trade books, greeting cards and sundries, and items with University and
Wildcat logos. |

PUBLISHING SERVICES |

Copier Services |
Copier Services offers a centralized copier program that provides for
the placement of copiers in University of Kentucky departments. Departments
participating in the copier program enjoy a number of conveniences and
benefits including a full line of copy systems with a wide range of features
and copy speeds. This program provides an on-site attendant at the University
who manages user training and reads copier meters monthly so departments
don't have to conduct routine meter readings. There are no capital budget
requirements or purchase orders needed. An automatic monthly billing
can be arranged directly to your FRS account with a hard copy sent to
your department. |

Duplicating Services |
Duplicating Services offers three convenient copy center locations to
serve the University community. |
|
|
Graphic Design Services |
Graphic Design Services offers desktop publishing, creation of camera-ready
graphics and text files, postscript file output, xerographic digital support
for the networked Docutech systems, pre-flighting of digital files for
offset and xerographic output, scanning, and typesetting. |

Printing Services |
Printing Services provides the University with full-service offset printing and a high-volume networked xerographic printing system to produce a wide variety of printed pieces including
In compliance with Chapter 57 of the Kentucky Revised
Statutes, all publishing services for the University must be provided
by Publishing Services or by a contract established by the Purchasing
Division. |

Publications and External Relations |
Publications and External Relations functions to develop successful,
reciprocally beneficial relationships between University of Kentucky Information
Systems and its clients. The primary responsibility is the effective
communication of information technology services, resources, and expertise
to the University community. This is accomplished through development
of robust information dissemination channels including print and electronic
publications and support of the University's Public Relations news media
initiatives. |

Microform Services |
A large portion of the University of Kentucky library system's five million-piece
collections of microforms (fiche, film, and cards) is housed, with reading
and printing equipment, on the second floor of the William T. Young Library.
Library patrons may request collections and guides at the Periodicals
Desk. Self-service microform equipment is available for patron use.
Instructions and assistance on operating the microform and printing equipment
using DART/Plus Account are available. |

Human Resources Policy and Procedures |
The Human Resources Policy and Procedure Manual contains the relevant
policies affecting non-faculty staff, as well as procedures for and official

The Compensation Office determines job classifications for staff positions,

Integrates
the University unemployment insurance system with that of the state of
Kentucky. |

Employee Benefits |
Administers the University employment benefits program for the University,
including the provision of information to employees who wish to take college

Elder Care |
Provides
information and assistance in meeting the needs of elderly family members
of University personnel and makes referrals to other available community

PARKING AND TRANSPORTATION |

Parking and Transportation |
These two departments process applications and issue permits for parking
on the Lexington Campus (including Lexington Community College) and at
the Medical Center. Permits are issued on an annual basis and may be paid
for in cash or by payroll deduction. |

RISK MANAGEMENT |

Risk Management |
Administers the risk management program for the University. |
|
|
ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH AND SAFETY |
||
|
Environmental Protection |
This department focuses on environmental compliance and activities that
could affect the quality of air, soil, drinking water, or groundwater.
This unit handles asbestos testing and abatement, underground storage
tanks (USTs), lead, radon, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), air and water
quality, environmental site assessment, and contaminated site remediation.

|
Hazardous Materials Management |
This department has primary responsibility for management of the University’s
hazardous waste, including waste pickups and central waste storage. This
unit handles hazardous materials spills and releases, biohazard wastes,
and chemical recycling. The unit also coordinates the University's bio-safety
program dealing with the use of infectious agents and recombinant DNA.

Occupational Health and Safety |
This department is responsible for all OSHA-related programs, such as
respiratory protection, hearing conservation, blood borne pathogens, hazard
communication, laboratory safety, and many others. The department also
conducts fume hood inspections, indoor air quality investigations, and
accident investigations, and it assists units with general safety procedures,
such as ladder safety, chemical storage safety, electrical safety, and
construction safety. |

Radiation Safety |
This department is responsible for all aspects of radioactive materials
use at UK. The radiation protection program includes radioactive materials
user authorization, film badges and bioassays, survey meter calibration,
radiation safety training, radioactive waste handling, and purchasing
of radioactive materials. The unit is also responsible for |
|
|
University Fire Marshal |
This department handles fire prevention and training, fire suppression
systems, fire extinguisher inspection and maintenance, life safety audits,
emergency evacuation planning, and building code compliance. The University
Fire Marshal has the delegated authority for plan review and approval
of in-house construction and renovation projects (i.e., non-capital projects
costing less than $100,000). |

Police Department |
The University of Kentucky Police Department functions under the authority
of the University’s Board of Trustees. The Department is available 24
hours a day, 365 days a year. Each commissioned police officer is certified
by the Kentucky Law Enforcement Council and has full arrest powers. |

Rasdall Art Gallery |
The Gallery exhibits work by students and faculty and shows local and traveling exhibits. It is operated by a student committee. |

Bookstore |
The Bookstore offers a complete line of textbooks and classroom materials,
University paraphernalia, greeting cards, and sundries. Discounts are
available to full-time faculty and staff upon presentation of a valid
University Identification Card. |
|
|
Public Relations |
Whether you are planning a special event, have a troublesome public issue
that demands attention, or are simply unsure about how best to get the
word out about your program or organization, the University of Kentucky
Office of Public Relations is ready to help. Note that each of the sectors
has a public relations officer that coordinates his/her work with the
Office of Public Relations. |

Dining Area |
A semi-private
dining area for faculty, staff, and students is maintained across from
the Coffee Shop of the Student Center (Room 214). |

Food Services: |
A variety of foods and food services are available on the second floor
of the Student Center. |
|

Game Rooms |
Facilities
for billiards, foosball, table games, and video games. |
|
|
Information |
There are two information desks: one on the second floor (near the grill)
and one on the first floor adjacent the bookstore. |
|
|
Lockers |
More than 300 small and large lockers are available for use by students,
staff, and faculty. These are located throughout the Student Center and
are available for rental by the semester at a reasonable fee. These require
a refundable key deposit. |

|
Martin Luther King, Jr. Cultural Center |
Designed
to highlight the culture and heritage of the University’s African-American
community, this center features lectures, workshops and seminars, exhibitions
of art and material culture, and productions in theater, music, and dance.
The Center also houses a small library of books, periodicals, and audio
and videotapes. |
|
|
Meeting Rooms |
Reservations for meeting rooms in the Student Center for student and
campus Director’s Office groups can be requested through this office.
|
|
|
Outing Center |
Offers
a complete line of camping and backpacking equipment on a rental basis
to University students, faculty, and staff. |
|
|
Technical Services |
Offers a variety of sound, lighting, and audiovisual equipment to the
University community for fees lower than most other professional rental
services. |
|
|
Television Lounges |
There
are three general television lounges in the Student Center. |
|
|
Worsham Theater |
A 500-seat theater with 35 mm projection capacity. Films are scheduled
by the Student Activities Board Film Program and shown throughout the
year. |
|
|
Student Center Theater |
A 200-seat theater with video projection and teleconference capabilities.
Theatrical lights and professional sound reinforcement are available for
small productions or recitals. |
|
|
Visitor Center and Campus Tours |
The Center provides information to visitors on admission, academic programs,
and student and cultural activities. The center offers campus tours, videotaped
overviews of the University, and computerized information on more than
200 University and community activities and programs. It also assists
in scheduling visits by prospective students and their families. A 30-minute
bus tour of the campus is available Monday through Saturday. |

Student Financial Aid and Employment |
Coordinates
financial assistance to students with limited resources. This assistance
may include scholarships based on need, grants, loans, and employment
through the College Work-Study Program (CWSP). |
|
|
Student Temporary |
Assists students in finding jobs both within the University and the Lexington
communities throughout the calendar year. Assists departments in the University
with filling temporary employment needs. |
|
|
University Health Service |
Medical and dental health care services are provided to all full-time
students who pay a health fee. Part-time students may pre-pay the fee
or may use the services on a fee-for-service basis. Extended coverage
is provided to both full-time and part-time students by enrollment in
the University of Kentucky Student Group Insurance Plan. |
|
|
International Student and Scholar Services |
The office provides services and programs to ease adjustment and enhance
the learning experience of international students and scholars. Services
include orientation, counseling, immigration advisement, scholarships,
English language instruction, and assistance to international faculty
and researchers. It also sponsors the International Hospitality Program,
cross-cultural workshops for staff and students, and various cultural
events. The department also coordinates its activities with those of
the International Living and Learning Center in Jewell Hall. |

Carnahan Conference Center |
Carnahan House is a conference center with meeting rooms and other facilities.
Catering is available. |

Hilary J. Boone Faculty Center |
This Center is a private club available to faculty, staff, alumni, and
friends of the University. Meeting rooms and catering services are available.
It also houses by a dining room and pub. |
|
|
Spindletop Hall |
A faculty, staff, and alumni club located in a mansion. |
|

DINING FACILITIES |

|
Plus Accounts |
Faculty, staff, and students may open a Plus Account and receive a Plus
Card to use for University of Kentucky Food Services purchases. Plus
cards can be opened with any whole dollar deposit. The Plus Account was
designed to supplement the Diner Account (which is required of all residence
hall students). Faculty and staff may wish to use a Plus Account when
shopping at any of the University of Kentucky Food Service locations or
south campus vending. |

|
University of Kentucky Food Services |
University of Kentucky Food Services locations are as follows. Faculty,
staff, students, and visitors are welcomed at all locations. |

|
K-Lair Grill, located between Donovan and Haggin Halls,
serves an assortment of foods including burgers, fries, pizza, traditional
breakfast, and many dinner specials. Pricing is a la carte. |

Medical Center |
All locations accept cash, physician’s charge cards, and guest tickets.
Checks are accepted on weekends and holidays only. |

Catering services for Lexington Campus and the Medical Center activities
and functions are available through the University. Exceptions for hiring

the director of the Food Service Division. |

Check Cashing |

Counseling and Testing |
The primary function of the Center is to help UK students with personal
concerns, career decision-making, and academic success skills. Trained
psychologists and counselors provide individual and group counseling to
assist students with adjustment to college life, relationship difficulties,
career/major choice, feelings of depression or anxiety, low self-esteem,
life transitions, alcohol/ substance use, problems in the family, and/or
ineffective study skills. Interviews are confidential. Individual testing
and inventories of personality, career interests, and learning styles
may be used to aid in self-understanding and to improve academic efficiency.
Testing is available only upon referral by a Center staff counselor. |

Day Care |
Discounted rates for childcare are available for University employees
and students. This nationally franchised childcare provider’s location
is convenient for staff at both the Lexington Campus and the Medical Center. |

Identification Cards |
ID cards are issued to all faculty and staff members annually. They entitle
holders to discounts, the use of check cashing facilities in the Student

Program facilities in the Alumni Gym, Memorial Coliseum, and Seaton Center.
The ID card also allows its owner to have University of Kentucky Library
privileges. |

Keys |
Strict control of University keys is maintained. University personnel
are responsible for the security of offices, desks, and other University
equipment. |

|
Lost and Found |
Property
turned in to the Police Department is kept for at least 90 days. |

Information
regarding the moving service contract or using a commercial moving service,
should be referred to Purchasing at the phone number shown on the left. |

Notary Public |
Several Notaries operate throughout the University. Usually the dean’s
office in each college can supply information about the nearest Notary
Public to assist faculty and staff. |

Religious Affairs |
The University does not sponsor religious activities, but it both welcomes
and supports diverse religious traditions and organizations on campus.
The Student Activities Office (257-8867) keeps a list of religious organizations
near campus and in the area. |

UK News |
This is a bi-weekly employee newspaper which reaches faculty and staff
in Lexington, as well as staff in county extension offices and University
of Kentucky retirees. The editors are always open to your suggestions
and submission of news items and announcements. UK News also offers
faculty and staff the opportunity to advertise for free rental or sales
of their homes. |

University of Kentucky Federal Credit Union |
Membership
is open to any regular full-time or part-time employee of the University
upon presentation of a valid identification card and deposit of at least
$25.00 into a new share (savings) account. |
