High School Student working on SRP Project Wins Lexington Mayor's Urban Environmental Award

(Feb. 2009) - Philip Bachas-Daunert, a senior at Paul Laurence Dunbar High School, won the Mayor's Urban Environmental Award of the City of Lexington at the Fayette County Science Fair that took place on February 7, 2009. Philip works with Professor Yinan Wei of the Department of Chemistry and a member of the University of Kentucky's SBRP Program on a Superfund project that focuses on the degradation of chlorinated organic pollutants using an immobilized thermostable dehalogenase isolated from a microorganism native of hot springs of Japan.

Bachas-Daunert is the son of UK-SRP research scientists and University of Kentucky faculty members Dr. Sylvia Daunert and Dr. Leonidas Bachas.
