UK-SRP and Kentucky Department for Environmental Protection Launch Research Translation Seminar Series for State Government Personnel

(April 2010) - The University of Kentucky Superfund Research Program (UK-SRP) Research Translation Core has joined with the Kentucky Department for Environmental Protection (DEP) to launch a seminar series addressing Superfund-related issues on both a state and a national scale.

The series is designed to bring state agency personnel together with Superfund-related researchers from around the country, thus smoothing the path for the latest research outcomes to enter into state policy discussions.

To date, seminar speakers have included subject matter experts from the Brown University and the US Environmental Protection Agency, discussing state-of-the-science vapor intrusion modelling and environmental justice research, respectively. Upcoming presentations will involve subject matter experts covering such topics as mercury stabilization, the relationship between nutrition and exposure-related illness, and the best practices for risk communication.

The monthly lunchtime presentations are given at DEP training facilities in Frankfort to an audience of agency personnel and representatives from other sectors of state government.
