Oesterling Receives Student Poster Award at NIEHS Superfund Basic Research Program Annual Meeting

(November 2007) - Elizabeth Oesterling, a Ph.D. student in Dr. Bernhard Hennig's lab, received one of four student poster awards at the recent NIEHS Superfund Basic Research Program [SBRP] Annual Meeting, held December 3-5 in Durham, NC.

Oesterling's poster, entitled "Benzo[a]pyrene-Induced Vascular Endothelial Adhesion Molecule Expression Can Be Reduced By Selective Flavonoid Treatment", was co-authored with UK-SBRP scientists Michal Toborek and Bernhard Hennig. For her work, Oesterling received a certificate from NIEHS, an autographed copy of keynote speaker Dr. Susan Steingraber's book Living Downstream, and a monetary award.

Student posters were presented from multiple projects within each SBRP university. In addition to Oesterling's award, UK students Scott Lewis, with Dr. D.B. Bhattacharrya's lab, and Karthik Venkatachalem, with Dr. Leonidas Bachas's lab, were among fourteen finalists selected during the poster competition.
