UK-SRP Student Researchers Receive Awards at National Society of Toxicology Meeting, Toxicology and Risk Assessment Conference

(April 22, 2008) -- Elizabeth Oesterling and Zuzana Majkova, both student researchers in Dr. Bernhard Hennig's lab, received Student Travel Awards at the 2008 Society of Toxicology Meeting. Oesterling's poster was entitled "Benzo[a]pyrene-Induced Vascular Endothelial Adhesion Molecule Expression Can Be Disrupted By Selective Flavonoid Treatment", while Majkova was recognized for her poster "Endothelial Cell Caveolae Are Involved in Activation of Aryl Hydrocarbon Receptor Pathway by Coplanar Polychlorinated Biphenyls". The SOT Meeting was held in Seattle, WA, from March 16th through the 20th.

Oesterling also was honored with the poster award for "Alumina Nanoparticles Induce Endothelial Cell Dysfunction: Implications in Vascular Disease" at the 2008 Toxicology and Risk Assessment Conference. The conference was held in Cincinnati, OH, from April 14th through the 16th.

Both students conduct research related to the UK-SBRP Superfund Chemicals, Nutrition, and Endothelial Cell Dysfunction project.
