(May 2010) - Dr. Lindell Ormsbee, UK-SRP Research Translation Core Leader, has received the 2010 Water Resources Planning and Management Service-to-the-Profession Award from the American Academy of Water Resources Engineers (AAWRE).
Since joining the faculty of the University of Kentucky in 1983, Dr. Ormsbee has been actively engaged in research, teaching, and consulting in water resources and environmental engineering and has published more than 200 technical papers and reports on various topics in this field. Dr. Ormsbee's research interests include: Mathematical Modeling of Hydraulic and Hydrologic Systems (including both surface and groundwater systems), Water Supply Planning, Watershed Management, Water Distribution Network Modeling, TMDL Modeling and Methodologies, Operations Research/Systems Analysis, Research Translation, Groundwater Remediation (including nanotechnologies). Over the last 30 years, Dr. Ormsbee's research program has helped generate external contracts from such agencies as the National Science Foundation, NOAA, the U.S. Geological Survey, the U.S. Army, the U.S. Department of Energy, the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
The award was presented during AAWRE's 6th Annual Diplomate Induction ceremony as part of the EWRI 2010 World Water and Environmental Resources Congress on May 17 in Providence, Rhode Island.
AAWRE's mission is to improve the practice, elevate standards, and advance the profession of water resources engineering by certifying engineers with specialized knowledge in water resources, recognizing the ethical practice of water resources engineering at the expert level, encouraging continued professional development for engineers, and supporting positions on water resources issues important to the public health. The Diplomate, Water Resources Engineer (D.WRE) credential program is the first voluntary, post-licensure, advanced-level specialty certification program created under Civil Engineering Certification, Inc. (CEC). Since the start of the AAWRE Diplomate program in October 2004, over 550 professional engineers have achieved the Diplomate, Water Resources Engineer (D.WRE) credential.
