The Research Translation Core (RTC) of the University of Kentucky Superfund Research Program (UK-SRP) seeks to translate program research to target audiences. The RTC's specific aims are:
  1. to communicate important research outcomes to appropriate audiences to ensure the accurate and timely use of data generated by individual research projects;
  2. to develop and implement mechanisms for receiving feedback from designated target audiences to ensure the utility and appropriateness of selected communication tools; and
  3. to ensure that research results are being appropriately applied to immediate environmental and health issues through the use of partnerships and other communication tools.

In fulfilling its charge, the UK-SRP RTC provides updates on Superfund-related news and events, overviews of the program's research projects and support cores, a complete listing of academic presentations and publications based on UK-SRP research, and information about program faculty and staff.

The Research Translation Core (RTC) communicates research findings emanating from the program in the manner most appropriate for the intended audience. Maintaining a close link with each of the individual research projects, as well as other support cores, the RTC is charged with the primary responsibility of translating research results to five primary target audiences:
  1. government
  2. industry
  3. the general public
  4. health and nutrition professionals
  5. academia
The RTC also acts as liaison with the Kentucky Research Consortium for Energy and the Environment (KRCEE) , maintaining close ties with and providing a translational conduit to ongoing monitoring and remediation activities at the Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant Superfund site.

The RTC has developed a brochure that provides an overview of the UK-SRP program. Research Translation members presented multiple posters at NIEHS Annual SRP Meetings in San Diego, CA, and Raleigh, NC, as well as at other conferences and meetings across the country.

The University of Kentucky has recently established the Center for Clinical and Translational Science, where interested individuals can learn more about research translation efforts University-wide, as well as check the calendar for upcoming presentations in the CCTS Distinguished Lecture Series.
